For a decade, a weekend in Ashburn had one default address: One Loudoun. That is still where the concert series plays and where Saturday mornings smell like kettle corn. What has changed this summer is the south end of town, where a run of openings around Brambleton and Bram Quarter has quietly given residents a second pole to plan around.
If you live here, the practical question is not whether Ashburn has enough to do. It is where the new things are, and which ones are worth building a Saturday around before the weather turns.
The south end filled in fast
Drive down Loudoun County Parkway toward Evergreen Mills Road and count the storefronts that were not open a year ago. Another Broken Egg Cafe opened at the Bram Quarter center in Ashburn on Monday, June 22, at the corner of Loudoun County Parkway and Evergreen Mills Road, in the same center as the Paris Baguette restaurant. It is the first in all of Loudoun County, which matters mostly because the brunch crowd that used to drive to Reston or Fairfax now has a closer option. The menu leans indulgent, with a Bacon and Grilled Tomato Benedict, Shrimp and Grits, and Bourbon Street Pancakes, plus a lineup of brunch cocktails including a Blueberry Margarita and a Vanilla Spiked Cold Brew.
A few minutes north, Brambleton Corner Plaza got its own new anchor earlier this year. Amrut sits at the corner of Northstar Boulevard and Evergreen Mill Road, and it is actually two separate restaurants under one roof. One is a fast-casual eatery offering quick dishes for dine-in or carry-out, and the other half is a full-service sit-down style restaurant. The fast-casual side began serving South Indian breakfast and pizzas in early February. If you have driven past a dozen times wondering what it was, that is the answer.
Over at Ashburn Farm Village Center, the plaza that already holds Patel Brothers and Buffalo Wing Factory has two more tenants in the works. Tiffin Hut, an Indian eatery with an existing location in Herndon, is planning to open in the Ashburn Farm Village Center retail plaza off Ashburn Farm Parkway, and is expected to specialize in vegetarian food, all day breakfast, butter dosas, vada, and other comfort-driven Indian favorites. The second name is a familiar one to anyone who has walked One Loudoun on a summer evening. The landlord has also announced Fantasticks as part of the plan, which is believed to be the same sweet shop already operating at One Loudoun, where it is known for gourmet gelato bars covered with indulgent toppings.
Coffee got denser too. Haraz Coffee House started its soft opening on Wednesday, June 17 at the Town Center at Sterling shopping plaza, the second of three Haraz locations landing in Loudoun County, with the first having opened in Ashburn in February and another in the works for the South Riding and Chantilly area. Haraz features coffee drinks and other beverages plus pastries, all inspired by the culture of Yemen. Three locations of the same specialty roaster inside one county is unusual for Loudoun. It is worth trying before the novelty attracts a permanent line.
Mark September on the calendar for one specific dinner
Most restaurant openings deserve a shrug and a wait-and-see. This one deserves a reservation.
Capellini's Classic Italian by Carbonara chef Mike Cordero is slated to debut in September at Ashburn's Brambleton Town Center.
Cordero's Gainesville original built its following on tableside theater. Pasta is tossed in a flaming 80-pound wheel of Parmesan, chicken Parmigiana is finished tableside so the breading stays crisp, and tiramisu is assembled in front of guests. Capellini's will be a companion concept rather than a copy. While Carbonara is rooted in Southern Italian cooking, Capellini's will offer a more contemporary atmosphere and draw inspiration from Northern Italian cuisine, with a greater emphasis on wine and cream-based sauces. Some of Cordero's signature dishes will make the trip to Ashburn, including his celebrated chicken Parmigiana and the Parmesan-wheel pasta presentation.
If you have been driving to Gainesville for a special occasion, that trip gets shorter in about a month.
Where the music actually is in August
The One Loudoun Summer Concert Series is doing what it always does, and if you have not been in a year or two, the roster is stronger than you remember. Melissa Quinn Fox Band plays the One Loudoun Summer Concert Series on Saturday, August 8, and 80s Mayhem takes the stage on Saturday, August 29, at 43751 Central Station Drive. Bring low chairs. The plaza fills earlier than people expect.
For a smaller room with a full menu in front of you, Not Ready 4 Monday plays live at Rai's Rendezvous Kitchen and Bar on Friday, August 14. Rai's has quietly become one of the more reliable weeknight spots in the area, and the food travels well between sets.
Lost Rhino on Red Rum Drive is running its usual tight schedule of beer, food trucks, and unannounced fun. Cousins Maine Lobster is scheduled at Lost Rhino Brewing Company on Saturday, August 1, and the Tom Batchelor Band plays the same evening at 6:00 PM. The brewery has also kept its Next Stop Comedy series on the calendar for anyone who wants a laugh with a pour.
The training camp weeks residents forget to use
Ashburn is home to a professional football team, and a surprising number of neighbors have never taken advantage of it. The public days at the practice facility are free, family-friendly, and the closest most people will get to an NFL sideline.

Kids Day on August 8 is the one to prioritize if you have children under twelve. Then drive twenty minutes to One Loudoun for the Melissa Quinn Fox show that evening and you have a full Ashburn Saturday without ever getting on the toll road.
The things that do not change
Some anchors do not need reintroducing. The EatLoco Farmers Market takes place at One Loudoun every Saturday morning, year-round, and is a large, popular market with a wide variety of local farm products, prepared foods, and artisan vendors. Ashbrook Commons on Ashburn Village Boulevard runs its own market rotation as well, which is worth knowing if the One Loudoun lot is packed on a holiday weekend.
For evenings, Brambleton Movie on the Green runs through August 7, which gives residents one more chance to catch a screening before the series wraps for the year. Central Station Drive is also hosting Movie Night featuring Minions on Sunday, August 2 at 6:30 PM, which is the sort of low-key end-of-weekend plan that does not require any planning at all.
Two evergreens are worth naming for anyone new to the area. Ashburn Ice House offers public skating sessions, which is a consistently fun family activity, and One Loudoun often hosts seasonal family events like its annual summer carnival, while the Alamo Drafthouse screens family-friendly films. The Ice House becomes especially useful in the third week of August, when the humidity spikes and outdoor plans fall apart by three in the afternoon.
One quiet suggestion before Labor Day
If you are the kind of neighbor who likes to be early on a place before it books out, watch two spaces this fall. The first is Capellini's, because a September debut at Brambleton Town Center from a chef with Cordero's following will not have easy reservations by Halloween. The second is whatever ends up next to the openings that just landed. Retail follows retail, and the plazas around Bram Quarter and Ashburn Farm Village Center are the ones filling in fastest.
The center of gravity for an Ashburn Saturday used to be a single traffic circle. This August, it is a corridor. If your habits still start and end at One Loudoun, spend one weekend heading south instead. The map has moved.
